Fashion. The way we dress is an important manner of expressing our own identity and character and a possibility to communicate with other people. In general fashion is a representation of our society because it is influenced by many things such as politics, art or the cultures of the world. Fashion is being influenced by trendbooks. Each trendbook has got its own topic, in it you can find different sections with colour palettes and pictures with notes that support the feeling the colours should give. Trends are made two years in advance and are predicted by coolhunters. Before you see a fashion show on the runway the designer has to start preparing the collection two years in advance, starting the first 4-5 weeks with creating panels where the inspiration, silhouettes and even the personality of the customer are being shown. A very important event is the Fair Trade Exposition where the fabric suppliers show their own collection and designer can choose the fabrics that they want to use. After the panels the designer selects the fabrics, prints, colours (for example by using colour trendbooks) and even the models. After a lot of sketching the main important clothes are being selected. The first step in realizing a collection is creating the prototype by the pattern maker. After finishing there are usually two fittings where the clothes are tried on a model. After the first sample which already is in the right colour and fabric there will be a quality check and if no mistakes were made the fashion show will be prepared which takes another month. The fabric for the next collection is ordered before the show because after it the fashion designer immediately starts working on the new one. Haute Couture are garments called which are made for a small amount of buyers – the ones that can afford these pieces. Because of the delicate fabrics, the high quality of finishings and hundreds of hours that have to be worked for creating these clothes that are not reproducible these items of clothing are considered real masterpieces. Haute Couture is not influenced by trends because it shows the main identity of the brand. Demi Couture is high fashion for a bigger target. The clothes are still very expensive because of the fabrics that are being used but they can be reproduced in a small amount with few variations of each piece and are slightly influenced by trends. Ready-to-Wear is based on fashion trends and divided in a base, evolution and fashion part. Base is the expression of the brand’s identity, evolution you can find each season because the designer wants to be up-to-date with his collection and the fashion part you can see in the fashion shows where the aim is to get publicity and shock people. A Pre-collection is a small part of the collection that is made to test the market before the main fashion show. Avant Garde designers are not influenced by trends; they are predicting them by searching for new shapes, materials or finishings. Their clothes are advanced and less commercial and because of that these designers have just few customers.
